There's more to Sea World than just Shamu - the famous killer whale who dazzles crowds with well-choreographed shows. Sea World Orlando is a 200-acre marine adventure park, complete with thrill rides.
Not just a mythical sea creature, the Kraken is Florida's only floorless roller coaster. This open air coaster gives the rider a unique adventure. Not only does the Kraken reach heights of 140 feet and turn the rider upside down seven times, but this 65 mile per hour ride takes place with neither a floor nor anything else to hold on to, other than the shoulder restraints.
The thrill of a great roller coaster combines with a water ride and special effects when Sea World Orlando takes riders to explore another water myth on Journey to Atlantis. And if the water ride isn't enough to cool you down on a hot day in Orlando, a trip to the Arctic just might.
On the Wild Arctic ride, you'll board a helicopter that will take you to a remote research station. Of course, there are always risks when you travel to remote areas, and on Wild Arctic, your pilot will steer you around danger to get you to the walruses, beluga whales and a pair of polar bears.
Of course, animal education is one of the primary goals of the Sea World parks, and encounters with the wildlife aren't reserved for the adventuresome. The animals of Wild Arctic can also be viewed without the hazards of simulated flight.
In addition to the walruses, belugas and polar bears, Sea World Orlando also has penguins. In fact, at Penguin Encounter, they have four species of penguins that visitors can view as they coast along on a moving walkway. Though you may want to spend hours watching the penguins, the moving walkway does encourage you to keep moving. But you might not think that's too bad an idea - the air in the Penguin Encounter is only 30 degrees, so cold that it actually snows inside the exhibit!
After your chilly encounter, nothing will warm your heart like baby dolphins! Head over to the dolphin nursery where new moms and their calves are on display. After, check out the Manatee Rescue area, another place where the animals are able to get a little extra tender loving care. The manatees, an endangered species that lives in the waters off the coast of Florida, in the rescue area have been injured; once cared for, they are returned to the wild.
Speaking of wild, if you're up for the adventure, make sure that you take the time to walk through the Shark Encounter's 60 foot long underwater tube and watch some of the ocean's most dangerous inhabitants - barracudas, eels, venomous fish and sharks - swim around you.
Of course, as fascinating as the sharks (and all of the other animals at Sea World) are, no trip to Sea World would be complete without taking in the amazing aquatic acrobatics of the dolphins and killer whales. You are sure to be amazed as these huge animals flip in the air above the giant aquarium pools.
No matter what, you're sure to be amazed by the grace of these large mammals, and not only will you be entertained, but you're likely to learn quite a bit while listening to their trainers.
